TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s Counterterrorism Service (CTS) said the Daesh terrorist group has resorted to guerrilla war.

That is why tactics to counter the terrorist elements have also changed, the CTS spokesman said, Mawazin News reported.

Sabah al-Numan added that the CTS has recently focused on preventive operations in its efforts to counter Daesh.

He said Daesh terrorist cells are currently mostly present in the northern parts of Diyala Governorate, south of Baghdad and mountainous areas in Saladin.

In late 2017, Baghdad declared there was no longer any Daesh presence in Iraq.

However, the terrorist group still maintains a presence in rural areas of Anbar, Diyala, Kirkuk, Saladin, and Mosul.

The Iraqi army and the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) continue to carry out frequent operations against the group in various parts of the country.
